The 2017 ELSI Congress is based at UConn Health & The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington Ct.  Farmington is immediately adjacent to West Hartford Ct., with excellent restaurants and shopping.

West Hartford’s Downtown, including Blue Back Square, includes nearly 100 restaurants.  Local favorites include: Bar Taco, Barcelona, Bricco & Frank Pepe for Pizza (Pepe’s is on New Britain Ave, a bit removed from central West Hartford).

The Mark Twain House and Museum, which is excellent

The Noah Webster House, also in West Hartford

Hill-Stead Museum, in Farmington. Hill-Stead is considered “perhaps the finest Colonial Revival house and museum in the United States” (National Historic Landmark Report) and houses some of the most important Impressionist paintings in the world, including works by Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, and James McNeill Whistler.

Yale University’s Lewis Walpole Library, in Farmington: a research center for eighteenth-century studies, including important holdings of eighteenth-century British prints, drawings, manuscripts, rare books, paintings, and decorative arts

Finally, for literary types, you can try the Wallace Steven’s walk, memorializing the life and poetry of one of America’s great 20th Century poets.
